stitch Buddy
#22344 I've decided to use Stitch Buddy instead of trying to turn my Mac into a Virtual Machine.I may try Parallels if Stitch Buddy does not work for me. What is the difference in Free App Stitch Buddy and the 49.99 Stitch Buddy App? Thankyou, Kathy Murphy |
#22345 The free version only allows you to save designs with less than 1,000 stitches. However it does all the other functions, so it’s a nice way to try before you buy. Stitch Buddy has long been a great app for managing and using designs on a Mac. The $50 price is quite reasonable, especially considering that going with Parallels would also require you to have a copy of Windows. |
#22346 Hi Kathy, Jim has already answered perfectly before I had the chance to reply (Thanks!), but please don't be shy to ask additional questions if you have any: I'm the developer of StitchBuddy and might be able to give some advice. My first recommendation is just to test the free version with all features before making a purchase, maybe using some small designs to overcome the trial limitation as Jim mentioned (saving is restricted to designs with max. 1,000 stitches).. Greetings, Matthias |
#22347 When using Stitch Buddy, does the program increase or decrease the number of stitches when a design is resized? Thanks. |
#22348 The creator of StitchBuddy. I’m impressed. I use it all the time. Just wanted you to know how great I think it is. |

You need to limit the increase / decrease, otherwise the design would become too loose or dense. For this reason the maximum amount per resize is limited (although you can repeat the operation). More details about StitchBuddy's feature are summarized in this table. Greetings, Matthias |
#22350 I‘m flattered and would highly appreciate ratings / reviews in Apple‘s App Store if you like StitchBuddy :D Thanks a lot for your support! |
#22351 I've put Stitch Buddy onto my iPad & once accustomed to using it, I'll pay the $50 to get reasonable coverage since 1000 stitches is a low bar to reach! toggle quoted messageShow quoted textI do have query about the following: it appears odd that Stitch Buddy was already amidst the many Janome apps but since I hadn't remembered it, I had searched 'Stitch Buddy' & adding it was available as though it was not on my iPad. When I looked for where I'd put the icon, I was surprised to see it already there but it required a rapid update of some sort. I'm puzzled as to what was happening as I've never seen such a thing-being OK to download something that's already presently added to the device! Typically, when an app is already present, it simply shows an option of opening it but I downloaded it as new. Was the original icon actually the same as what I downloaded? How different? It's a unique experience for me. Additionally, I've watched a couple other videos & it seems this works simply & effectively, unlike so many other approaches! This seems akin to a 'breath of fresh air' after looking into many programs that require extensive study time before any understanding sets in. Of course, the real test is yet to come when I put it to use. Thanks for opening the subject, Carole O'Mara as I'm starting as 100% newbie status. Thanks, Sandra Williamson. #22352 Upon viewing your Table that offers a huge amt of information on Stitch Buddy, I noticed in colors of thread, that my manufacturer of choice, Superior, is not included. Is there plan to add Superior's many thread types to that list? The grand majority of my thread stash is Superior brand & I've collected thread from several of their named thread lines (95% cones- King Tut cotton & several lines for embroidery use due to outstanding sheen). I'm unable to check their names because my sewing world is packed> getting sewing studio. Collecting has been ongoing for at least 4-5 years so my commitment is strong to the brand & isn't likely to change. Their reputation remains high as far as I've read & I wonder why they aren't included & hope their addition will be soon. If there's a reason they won't be acknowleged, I'd need to change my collection pattern & at substantial financial loss! Good grief! What a thought! #22353 Hi Sandra, On Fri, Jun 1, 2018 at 02:25 pm, Sandie Williamson wrote: First a minor, but maybe important remark: The full version in iPads / iPhones is USD 10, while USD 50 is the price for StitchBuddy running on Macs. With regards to your other question: StitchBuddy on iOS came in two version until mid of May: a free viewer for all iOS devices and one with editing capabilities only for iPads for USD 10. Two weeks ago I combined both versions into a single one (for iPhones and iPads), replacing the premium one, made it a free trial and introduced the 'In-App Purchase' to unlock saving larger designs. So you might have the free version already installed - with a very similar icon - and additionally you've downloaded the new one. It's save to delete the old version if you're keeping its designs in iCloud. Otherwise you should back up the designs, first. HTH, Matthias |
#22354 Hi Sandra, On Fri, Jun 1, 2018 at 02:26 pm, Sandie Williamson wrote: I can include additional thread charts, but only if anybody can provide me the following information: Chart name (the brand), and per color the color's name (if any), its number, and (most important) the color itself as an RGB triplet: It consists of three numbers representing the amount of red, green, and blue, and is basically representing how a color is displayed. If you're able to provide this list I could incorporate your Superior brand in the next release .. but that will take a while as StitchBuddy takes a summer bread. Anyway, my wife uses colors on her Mac only to get an impression of a design, and picks threads from her collection without relying too much on a program's suggestion: These are often ways off and I wouldn't overestimate them.. Greetings, Matthias |
#22355 Hi, I have the color charts & therefore its names, numbers but would need the company to supply rbg info. I'll look into it. I assume 'bread' is a typo for 'break' & makes perfect sense but what dates are you referencing? I'll look into it & get back to you. Thank you for your response that offers a solution! #22356 I’m confused. I seem to have Stitch Buddy HD. I use it on my iPad. When I search the ap store I don’t see a $50 version. Am I missing anything? After buying my first embroidery machine and even a windows laptop to be able to use the software that comes with it I found Stitch Buddy was all I really needed and it works on my iPad. Thank you developer. B Diane Landon Sent from my iPad |

Am I missing anything? No, you don't. Not being a native speaker I might have complicated things unnecessarily with my explanations. There are two versions of StitchBuddy, one in the iOS App Store and one in the Mac App Store (for some reasons Apple decided to run two different stores depending on the operating system):
I'm sorry StitchBuddy is actually taking so much room in this forum. Although I'm more than happy to answer your questions here, you can always reach me by email at info@.. (this contact email and much more information - including some video tutorials - is published at StitchBuddy's website). I hope I could clarify things a little.. Have a wonderful Sunday, Matthias |
'If you only work with purchased designs, then StitchBuddy is all you need for the Mac. It's the single best tool I've ever found for working with Janome embroidery designs, and that includes all of the ones available for the PC.

Stitch Buddy Reviews
- Now StitchBuddy will save an additional file (extension '.threads') with the embroidery design, holding all color information. So the next time you open the DST design with StitchBuddy, it's still colorized (but not on your embroidery machine or in other programs). HTH, Mattes - Edited on 2/11/11 7:10 PM.
- StitchBuddy can modify and convert embroidery files. Parts of a design can be flipped or rotated, moved or deleted. Multiple designs can be combined using Copy and Paste and thread colors can be.
